Module 07 · Passage planning

Module 07 · One whole plan

Everything together, in the order a skipper works: assess, lay the route, the tide, the stream, the times and the sheet; then check it, hand it in and read the report.

How the lesson starts

Monday 23 September 2024. Sam takes the boat from Boulogne-sur-Mer across the Dover Strait to Rye: 6.0 knots through the water, 1.8 m of draught, no wind.

On the crossing leg the bow points at right angles to the traffic (Rule 10), and the line on the chart is where the stream carries you.

How to read the report

When the plan is handed in, the marker sails it, leg by leg, and writes a report. This is the one for the plan this chapter has worked, step by step; its whole sheet comes after the practice, to compare with yours.

What you practise inside

This is a preview. The lesson itself is interactive: you work through it step by step, and every answer is checked as you go.
