Terms of Sale

Last updated: 28 October 2026

These terms apply when you buy access to the Offshore Theory course at offshoretheory.com. Offshore Theory is an independent course; contact and operator details are in the Legal Notice (legal.html).

1. What you are buying

Offshore Theory is an independent online course that helps you prepare for the theory of the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore. It is a study complement: it does not replace an RYA-recognised course and does not award any RYA certificate. Offshore Theory is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by the Royal Yachting Association. "RYA" and "Yachtmaster" are used only to describe the exam the course prepares for.

The course is not a substitute for official charts, almanacs, publications or professional training. Its charts and tidal data are for learning only and must never be used for navigation.

2. Who sells it to you

Payments are processed by Stripe through its Managed Payments service. For each purchase, Stripe (through Link) acts as the reseller and merchant of record: it is the seller on your receipt, it collects any VAT or sales tax due in your country, and your bank statement will show "Link.com*Offshore Theory". Your purchase is also subject to the Link Consumer Terms (https://link.com/terms). Offshore Theory provides the course itself and supports you with it.

3. Price

Until 13 November 2026 the full course is free for everyone with an account (see section 7).

Founder price. If you created your Offshore Theory account before 14 November 2026 (00:00 UTC), the full course costs you £149 (€169), one payment, tax included. This applies even if you confirm your email after that date. You can buy at this price now, during the free period, or at any later date: it does not expire while your account exists. It is personal to your account and cannot be transferred. If you buy during the free period, your access simply continues after 13 November 2026.

Standard price. For accounts created from 14 November 2026, the full course costs £229 (€259), one payment, tax included.

Which price applies is worked out from the date your account was created, and the price you will pay is shown on the payment page before you pay.

The price is shown before you pay, in your currency where available, including any tax due. Promotional prices and free periods apply only for the period announced on the site.

4. Your access

After payment you get access to the full course through your Offshore Theory account, immediately. Access lasts for as long as Offshore Theory offers the course, and never less than 24 months from your purchase. The course may be updated, corrected or reorganised over time; updates are included at no extra cost.

Your access is a personal, non-transferable licence for your own study. You may not share your account, resell access, or copy, download in bulk, record or republish the course content, including its charts, exercises and questions. We may suspend an account that is clearly being shared or misused, after telling you why.

5. Right of withdrawal (EU and UK consumers)

If you buy as a consumer you normally have 14 days to withdraw from the purchase without giving a reason. Because the course is digital content supplied immediately, before you pay we ask you to tick a box on our purchase page confirming that you want access to start straight away and that you understand you lose the right of withdrawal once access begins. If you give that consent, the right of withdrawal ends when your access starts. If you do not, you can withdraw within 14 days by writing to hello@offshoretheory.com.

6. Refunds

Whatever the above, you can ask for a refund within 60 days of purchase if you could not access the course, if it is significantly different from how it was described, or if it does not work as it should and we cannot fix it. You can ask through Link support (https://support.link.com/questions/sold-through-link-refunds) or by writing to hello@offshoretheory.com. Refunds go back to your original payment method. This does not limit any other right you have under consumer law.

If a payment is refunded in full, or disputed with your bank, access to the full course ends.

7. Free modules and free periods

Buoyage, lights and shapes, and the rules of the road are free, with no account; the diesel engine is free with a free account. These modules stay free. Until 13 November 2026 the full course is open to everyone with an account; from 14 November 2026 the paid modules require a purchase.

8. Exam results

We work hard to keep the course accurate and up to date with the current regulations, but we cannot guarantee that you will pass any exam.

9. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. Otherwise, our total liability to you is limited to the price you paid for the course.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version that applies to your purchase is the one in force on the day you paid.

11. Law and complaints

These terms are governed by Spanish law. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in your local courts. Write to hello@offshoretheory.com with any complaint; we reply within 14 days. You may also contact the consumer authority where you live.
