How you learn

You’re at the chart table.
Not just watching it.

Every topic follows the same four steps: see the idea, watch it done, try it with help, then do it on your own.

01 / Work the chartChartwork · Tides · Passage
RECORDED FROM THE COURSE

01The whole chart, worked by hand.

Open the dividers, lay the plotter, fix your position from two bearings, work the tidal stream for the hour and find the course to steer. On real charts, from Skelmar to the Channel.

RECORDED FROM THE COURSE

02Decide, then find out why.

Take a bearing and watch it. Read a light, name a mark, turn the engine in your hands and change its impeller. Every answer comes with the reason.

Where the course is heading

Plan a real passage
across the Channel.

Everything you learn comes together on one chart: the real Central English Channel. The course gives you a departure and a destination, and you plan the passage the way the exam asks for it.

  • Tide tables, tidal curves, secondary ports and the stream atlas, all inside the course. No almanac to buy.
  • Plotter, dividers and tidal triangles, worked by hand on screen.
  • Your plan is checked: the traffic separation scheme, the side you passed each buoy, the course to steer.
  • Practise with help at every step, then do it on your own.

From your first fix

The move to the real Channel: the almanac, secondary ports and the stream atlas.

07Passage planning

A complete passage plan across the Channel, with help at every step, then on your own.
